The all-in-one balcony PV and storage system can contribute to reducing electricity bills

The all-in-one balcony PV and storage system

The all-in-one balcony PV and storage system offers an innovative solution for homeowners looking to reduce their electricity bills while embracing sustainable energy. This compact system combines solar power generation with energy storage in a single, easy-to-install unit designed specifically for balcony applications.

Self-generation of electricity

The photovoltaic (PV) panels in the system generate electricity from sunlight. During daylight hours, when the sun is shining, the PV panels convert solar energy into electrical energy. This generated electricity can be used directly to power household appliances and electronics. For example, if you have lights, fans, or a laptop charger plugged in during the day, they can run on the electricity produced by the balcony PV system instead of drawing power from the grid. This means that you are using free, renewable energy and reducing your consumption of grid-supplied electricity, which in turn reduces your electricity bill.

Time-of-use optimization with energy storage

Many regions have time-of-use electricity pricing structures, where electricity is more expensive during peak hours (usually in the evenings when demand is high) and cheaper during off-peak hours. The all-in-one system with storage allows you to take advantage of this.

The battery in the system stores the electricity generated by the PV panels during the day. Then, during peak-price hours in the evening, you can use the stored energy from the battery to power your home instead of purchasing electricity from the grid at a higher cost. For example, if the cost of electricity during peak hours is $0.30 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) and off-peak is $0.10 per kWh, and you use 5 kWh of stored energy during peak hours, you can save ($0.30 - $0.10) × 5 = $1.00 per day just from this optimization.

Reducing grid-dependency for basic loads

By powering a portion of your home's essential loads (such as a refrigerator, Wi-Fi router, and some lights) with the balcony PV and storage system, you can significantly reduce your overall electricity consumption from the grid. Even if you don't completely offset your entire electricity usage, a partial offset can lead to a noticeable reduction in your monthly electricity bill. For example, if the balcony PV and storage system can cover 30% of your daily electricity needs, your monthly electricity bill could potentially be reduced by about 30% as well.

Net-metering benefits (if available)

In some areas, net-metering policies are in place. With net-metering, if your balcony PV system generates more electricity than you consume during a certain period (usually a day or a month), the excess electricity can be fed back into the grid. You are then credited for this excess electricity by your utility company.

For example, if you generate 10 kWh more than you use in a day and your utility company buys back the excess electricity at $0.08 per kWh, you can earn a credit of $0.80. This credit can be used to offset future electricity bills, further reducing your overall costs.
